Four siblings, Sarah, Sophie, Stella, and Steven, became orphans after they were abandoned by both their parents. The mother left when she separated from their father and neither of them wanted to take care of their children. The siblings were left alone and without any family to take them in.

Food For Every Child Stories

Stories is an ongoing segment within our organization, which aims to document some of the compelling narratives of those that we all help. Each story follows the situation of several children, their families, and their communities to help people understand the scope and impact of our work.

Abandoned But Not Alone

An elderly couple, who were neighbors with the family, took pity on the children and offered to take them in and raise them as their own. The children were hesitant at first, but they had nowhere else to go.

The couple was kind and loving, but they were also very old and frail. They had one daughter, named Sally, who has a child of her own named Ronald.  The family did their best to provide for the children, but they struggled to keep up with their needs. The children often went without food or warm clothes during the cold season.

Despite their hardships, the children were grateful to have a roof over their heads and someone to care for them. They grew to love the couple, their daughter, and their adopted brother as if they were their own family.

The entire family is currently being supported by Sally’s husband, who is working in construction outside the country. Sally said she didn’t plan to raise five children, but they couldn’t bear to see the four siblings suffer after their parents left.

It’s difficult. But I am happy. I enjoy spending time with these children and I treat them like my own

Orphans and Abandoned Children

Orphans, who have lost one or both of their parents and those abandoned to fend for themselves, often face a difficult and uncertain future. Many end up in the care of relatives, foster families, or institutions, but for some, adoption provides a chance for a new family and a better life. However, not all adoptions are successful, and some orphans may find themselves living with poor adopted parents who are unable to provide for their basic needs.

Living with poor adopted parents can have a devastating impact on an orphan’s physical, emotional, and mental well-being. They may not have enough food to eat, adequate clothing, or proper shelter. They may also be subjected to abuse and neglect, and may not receive proper medical care or education.

The lack of financial resources can also lead to poor parenting, such as neglect and emotional abuse. These parents may not have the capacity to understand their child’s emotional needs and may fail to provide them with the love and support they need to thrive. As a result, these children may struggle with feelings of abandonment, low self-esteem, and a lack of trust in adults.

The education of the child may also be affected, as they may not have the financial resources to provide them with adequate schooling. This can result in a lack of basic skills and knowledge, which can make it difficult for the child to succeed in life.

How We are Helping

Following our initial assessment of the four orphaned siblings during one of our feeding programs, we immediately conducted a secondary assessment to determine the appropriate steps to take.

We first listed the family as one of the beneficiaries of the food bank we had established for their community. The family receives a subsistence of one food box and a sack of rice each week. The children are also being provided with a supply of vitamin supplements.

We also conducted private seminars with the parents to educate them about the proper preparation of nutritious meals.

How You can Help

Your donations enable us to continue supporting abandoned and orphaned children like Sarah, Sophie, Stella, and Steven. Every dollar you give goes towards providing food for these children. This allows them to focus on just being children instead of having to worry about hunger.

You can make a difference by helping Sarah, Sophie, Stella, and Steven, and children like them struggling with hunger.
